Eligibility requirements
Candidate must be at least 18 years of age, and a resident of the city for at least 12 months, a qualified voter within the county, a resident of the school district in which the candidate seeks election. If the position is elected by district, must be a resident of the district which the candidate seeks to represent. Must not be employed by the Georgia Department of Education, the State Board of Education, or the local board of education which the candidate is running to represent. Must not serve on the governing body of a private elementary or secondary school. Must not have been convicted of a felony involving moral turpitude, unless that person’s civil rights have been restored and at least 10 years have elapsed from the date of the completion of the sentence without a subsequent conviction of another felony involving moral turpitude.
