Job description
The County Council is the legislative arm of New Castle County government. The council body includes 13 council members elected from each of 12 districts and the council president, who is elected at-large. The County Council studies issues that affect the operation of the government and the citizens it represents. Council writes and passes laws and resolutions that improve the operation and protect the health and welfare of the citizens of New Castle County. Council members serve staggered four-year terms.
Eligibility requirements
Elected officials of the County Council shall be citizens of the United States and qualified electors of the County. They shall be residents of the district from which they are elected or, in the event of redistricting, of the district as adjusted for at least 1 year prior to their election. Such officials must not be less than 24 years old when elected to office. The County Council shall be the judge of the qualifications of its members. 9 Del. C. SS1142
